Q.  What is Bubble Tea?

Bubble tea (also known as pearl tea) is a combination of freshly brewed tea (green or black), flavoured with a range of syrups or milk.  It is usually served cold, with Tapioca pearls and/or a variety of delicious toppings.  

This unique drink is a fairly new phenomenon, it first originated in Taiwan around the 1980s.  In the last decade Bubble Tea has grown to be an enormously popular drink across Asia and increasingly across Australasia, America and throughout Europe.

Q. Why is Bubble Tea so popular?

You only require a small amount of capital to get started.  We have created a range of start up options for you, ranging from a basic business setup that you can fit in the back of your car!  Our simple Bubble Tea pop-ups are perfect for making money at local markets, school carnivals and events/festivals.  We also offer more comprehensive packages for those that want to expand quickly and increase their footpoint in a geographic area.

Q. What is Boba Tea?

Boba is the name given to the chewy black balls that are made from Tapioca, a starch extracted from the cassava root. They originated as a cheaper alternative to pearl sago in Asian cuisine.  When in bubble tea, tapioca balls are commonly referred to as boba (a Chinese slang term for large breasts) or pearls. 

Q. Is Bubble Tea Gluten free?

Yes, Bubble Tea can be made in a way that is gluten-free.  The base tea (Green or Black) is naturally brewed and is 100% gluten-free.  The Tapioca balls (Boba/pearls) are also non-gluten and there are a variety of toppings and syrups that you can use that are also gluten free.

Q. Is Bubble Tea Dairy free?

Yes, you can provide a range of non-dairy options for customers.  There are two main types of Bubble Tea: fruit-based and milk-based.  The fruit-based Bubble Teas are 100% dairy free.  For the milk-based Bubble Teas you can use dairy alternatives such as Soy or Oat milk to ensure the drink is dairy free of dairy

Q. Is Bubble Tea full of sugar?

No, it is made to taste. The basic ingredient of bubble tea is green or black tea, the sweetness is adjusted to suit the taste of the customer.  When prepared at an average sugar level, Bubble Tea contains less sugar than most freshly squeezed fruit juices!

Q. What is required to buy a Bubble Tea Betty license?

Q. How much money to I need to invest in setting up a Bubble Tea business?

On average, you should allow between $10,000 and $20,000 to set up your first Bubble Tea business.  This will allow for all the equipment, supplies and Bubble Tea making components.  If you don’t have the capital up front, don’t stress!  We have a number of payment options that will enable you to get started with less capital. 

Q. Who is Betty?

Betty is just a playful name we came up with that captures the fun we want everyone to feel with owning a Bubble Tea business.  We know that for many people starting up a new business often is done in combination with an existing job or other commitments.  ‘Betty’ is the persona of the Bubble Tea Betty (BTB) business and like the playful Mona Lisa of the BTB logo, the name is there to remind us all to have fun and not take life too seriously.

Q. What do you get with your Bubble Tea Betty license purchase?

Our basic packages include everything you need to get started on your first day. We provide you with all the key equipment such as your marquee, tables, menus, drink supplies and serving materials.  Our team also provides comprehensive training and ongoing support for you as you grow your business and your income.
